Reference from LS1012ardb used PHY from Realtek. If i would like to change to use Atheros can I?.
Do you have Ehternet driver support for Atheros chip on U-boot and Kernal?.

NXP Linux and u-Boot network interface drivers utilize standard
u-Boot (PHYLIB) and Linux (PHY Abstraction Layer) API calls to
communicate to the PHY. If your PHY driver adheres to the same API,
then it can be recognized and initialized by the network interface
driver. Approach your driver manufacturer for driver availability and
details.
