I'd like to use SC16IS741A with an SMD crystal (i.e., not 1.8432 MHz); something like ABLS-LR-3.072MHZ-T (18pF load capacitance) or smaller.

If possible, what values should I use for C1/C2 which should be 0805 on a 2-layer PCB?

Hi Guillermo,

Yes, you can use the the 3.072 MHz or smaller crystal and the C1/C2 value are 22/33 pF.

Thank you, Tomas; I see I can still use the capacitor values given for the 1.8432 MHZ crystal. Is there a range of crystal frequencies I could use? Like 11.0592 MHz or others, in case I need further miniaturization of my design? How can I calculate the right capacitors in those cases?

Kind regards,

Guillermo

Hi Guillermo,

The datasheet specifies the crystal oscillator max. 24 MHz and it is okay to use both C1/C2 as 22/33 pF.

Best regards,

Tomas
