Specifically, could I use an eMMC standard 5.0 or 5.1 complaint part on an IMX6 processor such as MCIMX6QP6AVT1AA, that ony has support for eMMC 4.41?  Is the eMMC standard backwards compatible?  What should I look out for when selecting such a part?

Thanks,

-Jon

Hi Jon

supported eMMCv4.4 or less according to

sect.8.5.3.1 Expansion Device eFUSE Configuration i.MX6DQP Reference Manual

http://cache.nxp.com/files/soft_dev_tools/doc/support_info/iMX6DQPRM.pdf

eMMC 5.x are backward compatible and can work with card->ext_csd.rev

modifications in linux sources given in

i.mx6 with eMMC 5.0 SDR or DDR interface? | NXP Community

Boot ROM will fall back to the eMMC4.4 standard when a higher versions

capable device is detected.

Best regards
igor
