Hello. I have imx6 Board and see the problem. The board boot from eMMC. On the Board I have SD slot. If the Board boot with empty SD Slot than all is OK and I can log in and put SD Card in the Slot. Also I can acces of the SD Card.

But If I put SD Card bevor boot in SD slot then in the boot came to :

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(179,1)

and Board does not boot.

From your log it seems you are configuring the rootfs as root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 while your eMMC seems to be mmcblk1.

If you can print the uboot env you have with and without the SDcard inserted, maybe we can see where is the problem, just stop at uboot and type:

printenv

and paste the output.

Hi Alex,

The rootfs seems to be hardcoded to /dev/mmcblk0p1 in your bootargs and when you boot with the SDcard plugged your eMMC seems to be in mmcblk1 so in order to boot with the SDcard in the system you could try something like:

1. Boot and stop at uboot.

2. change the rootfs path:

setenv   bootargs 'console=ttymxc0,115200 root=/dev/mmcblk1p1 rootfstype=ext4 rootwait rw consoleblank=0 ip=off'

3. Boot your board:

boot

Hi Alex,

You just have to make sure which of the available partitions is the one with your file system and then add it to the root= parameter of your bootargs.

From uboot you can do something like:

mmc dev 1 # (or mmc dev 0, depending on the device)

To see the device information you can run:

mmc info

To see the partition table:

mmc part

and to chow the content of an specific partition:

ext4ls mmc (dev):<part>  # (or fatls if the partition format is fat).

As an example:

=> mmc dev 1

switch to partitions #0, OK

mmc1 is current device

=> mmc part

Possibly you inserted bootable SD card in the slot and the system actually boots from SD not from eMMC.

The card has u-boot and kernel but has no root filesystem, so the boot fails.
