I just upgraded from 7.5.0 to 7.7.2.  Loading and debugging programs on LPC1114FN/102 in a custom hardware board works fine with 7.5.0.  After upgrading to 7.7.2, I cannot program the flash nor load/debug a program.

OK, thanks for the explanation.

The LPC-Link2 seemed to work with my target only if JP2 was installed even though my target was supplying power to what I thought was the VTref pin.  I discovered that my problem with needing JP2 connected was because I was providing target power to pin 1 of J6 (the LPCXpresso JTAG header).  Based on the schematics for the LPC-Link2, pin 1 on this connector is not the same as pin 1 on J7 and J8.  Instead of connecting my target power to J6 pin 1, I had to remove JP2 and connect the target power to pin 1 of JP2.  This provided target power to the LPC-Link2 buffers.

Yes, I am using the Redlink debug probe firmware.

Everything seems to be working well now.  Thank you for your help.

The original LPC-Link1 only supported 3.3V and did not get VTref from the target.  However the LPC-Link2 uses dual-supply buffers that allows it to work with targets using a different voltage (between 1.8V - 4.3V).

On the LPC-Link2 board JP2 shunted will power the target side of the dual-supply buffer and provide power to the target through a diode on VTref.  With JP2 open the Target must supply the VTref to power the Target side of the dual-supply buffer.

We'll update our documentation to better reflect the above.

So far we haven't managed to identify any reason as to why you should see different behaviour between LPCXpresso 7.5.0 and 7.7.2 though. Just to confirm, you are using Redlink debug probe firmware soft-loaded by LPCXpresso when it first starts a debug session, rather than CMSIS-DAP firmware preprogrammed into the flash?

I reduced the hardware circuit to just the LPC1114FN28, a 3.3V voltage regulator and a LPC-Link debugger.  The LPC-Link debugger was connected to the LPC1114FN28 using a minimal SWD connection (SWDIO, SWDCLK, Reset, Ground).

When I used an original LPC-Link debugger (first generation, part of an LPCXpresso 1114 board), both versions of LPCXpresso were able to flash a program without errors.

When I used a LPC-Link2 debugger, LPCXpresso 7.5 programmed the flash without errors but LPCXpresso 7.7.2 failed with errors as shown in the logs of previous posts.

The LPC-Link2 pod with LPCXpresso 7.7.2 started working once I added a connection from the debugger interface JTAG VREF pin to the circuit 3.3V supply voltage and installed jumper JP2 on the LPC-Link2.

After reading about the JTAG VREF pin and examining the schematic for the LPC-Link2, I understand the need for this connection.  I do not understand why the LPC-Link2 worked with previous versions of LPCXpresso without the JTAG VREF connection installed.  Any insight would be useful.

Thank you for your prompt aid in trying to troubleshoot this problem.

Thank you for your logs. In order for us to investigate further please can you confirm if you can successfully launch a debug session if you boot your board into ISP mode first?

Also, after mass erasing the part does the next debug session program the flash and start correctly?

It would also be interesting if you could try programming a different image a few times (after mass erasing first), and seeing if you see the same behaviour.

Finally is there any chance of getting your application project - buildable with sources if possible, else at least the AXF and linker map file - so that we can try to reproduce the problem here?

I was able to use an LPC-Link2 debugger connected to the SWD pins on the LPC1114 and LPCXpresso 7.7.2 to mass erase the flash of the microcontroller as the following log shows.

I will try the steps that you suggest; however the issue is not that the program cannot be debugged.  The issue seems to be a failure to properly program the flash memory on the LPC1114 based on the error messages of "Writing 14948 bytes to address 0x00000000 in Flash Target error from Commit Flash write: Em(12). System rejected access at location 0x10000AE4 - verify Population of memory and peripherals" and "Pb: 1 of 1 (  0) Writing pages 0-3 at 0x00000000 with 14948 bytes
Ps: (  0) at 00000000: 0 bytes - 0/14948
Pb: (100) Writing Flash ended with an error.
Ed:05: File 'Serial_Port_Relay_Control_CmdI.axf' load failure: Em(12). System rejected access at location 0x10000BF0 - verify Population of memory and peripherals"

It sounds like something in your image is putting the MCU into a state that is preventing the flash driver from taking control.

First of all, can you confirm if you can successfully launch a debug session if you boot your board into ISP mode first? This should prevent the code is flash being executed from reset.

Can you also see if there is any difference in behaviour seen if you enable "vector catch" functionality in the launch configuration.

Please post debug logs from using LPCXpresso 7.7.2, both with vector catch enabled and without - ensuring that you first switch on the "DEBUG TRACE" option as follows:

* use the "Preferences..." dialogue:
* ensure the LPCXpresso group of options are expanded
* select the "Debug Options (Advanced)" choice
* fill in the box labelled "Extended debug trace (DEBUG_TRACE)" with 4095
