It is clear that LPCLink2 will not support ARM7 or ARM9  -http://www.lpcware.com/content/faq/lpcxpresso/lpc-link2-support

Although not mentioned anywhere, I assume the older LPCLink also does not support ARM7 and ARM9

But LPCXpresso IDE v6 supports ARM7/9, but it only support LPCLink debuggers.

So what are the options for somebody who wants to use LPCXpresso as an IDE for ARM7/ARM9?

LPCXPresso IDE -> ?Debugger? -> ARM7/9

For ARM7/9 debug with the LPCXpresso IDE, you need to either use the original LPC-Link (ie a separated LPCXpresso board) or a Red Probe+.
