I would like to programattically set the CAN module to be silent on the bus (no ACK, no transmit).

If I set the TEST bit in the CANCTRL register, and then set the SILENT bit in then CANTEST register, will the CAN module receive messages as normal thereafter?

If so, are there any disadvantages to leaving the TEST bit set during running?

Thanks,
Mike

Well, now I've tried it I can say that it certainly seems to work fine.

The CAN operation is exactly as normal, but with no transmission.

Does anyone know of any disadvantages of leaving the CAN module in TEST mode?

Silent mode is Silent mode  :D

If you just want to receive data, that's no problem...

At least if someone ACKs transmitted data (or are you working with DAR?)...

BTW: Which Baudrate are we talking about ?
