Either I don´t understand what data retention is, or it looks to me 5 or even 10 years a short time for asset management applications, i.e. for tagging network elements in a telecom network. Please, provide some advice as t what data retention means in this context or how to address asset management requirements for a longer time period.

From the NTAG213/215/216 datasheet we can see the next table:

So, you are right about 10 years of data retention under ambient temperature conditions. As you can see this is a minimum time, but it could be more. However for 20 years you would need to refresh the data by reprogramming the tags. Sorry for the inconvenience.
