i.MX53 doesn't boot after replacing system.img

Question asked by Jonathan Taylor on May 19, 2016

I have rebuilt the system.img using make_ext4fs.exe.  I then successfully wrote it to an i.MX53 board using the latest MfgTool posted on this site.  Now the board will not boot! The device displays a logo for about 10 seconds, then reboots in a loop.   It is exactly like this report regarding an i.MX6:

I suspect it is not able to mount /system. If I revert back to the prior system.img, there is no problem.  It seems like that file is built wrong, or is missing something, but I can't figure out what it is after days of tearing my hair out.

Supposedly "This problem is solved by using the latest BSP jb4.2.2_1.1.0 version." for the MX6.  How about the MX53?  Please help!  I need this resolved asap.
