Using i.MX as a Media Center, Audio Stream with S/PDIF

Hello

I am designing a multimedia centre using the imx6 and new to most of the stuff I come across with.

As part of the design I would like the card to support 5.1 and 7.1 home theater systems and for this

purpose, planning to use the S/PDIF interface that imx6 has.

Simply put my question is what intermediate ICs and devices do I need to connect in between my

home theather system and imx6 in case of;

     - Coaxial

     - Optical (TOSLINK)

When I give outputs from the Tx of the S/PDIF, how do I convert it to optical? If I use a coaxial connector

do I need nothing else but the cable in between? Obviously home theathre handles the DAC if it accepts

S/PDIF so that is not my problem.

A detailed explanation or guidance is welcome since I am completely new and self educated on the subject.

Thanks

Hello Igor,

Thanks for your reply. Just to make sure, please verify what I have in my mind.

Linux running on I.MX6  S/PDIF interface using a transmitter (GP1FMV31TK0F) connected

to a home theather system through an optical calbe (TOSLINK) will be a setup enough

to make it work (See attachment below for the Setup).

Best Regards,

Atilla
