56800/E USB TAP debugging on a JTAG chain Revisited

I'm having the same issue that came up in the message titled below:
"56800/E USB TAP debugging on a JTAG chain "

The above thread did not include a resolution and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if this works and how to get it to work.

The device I'm using is a MC56F8346 in a JTAG chain with two other devices (EPLDs).  If any device other than the F8346 is in the chain CW gives a "Core not responding" error.  When I remove the other devices from the chain, so the F8346 is by itself, CW doesn't gag.  The EPLDs don't have a problem with the F8346 being in the chain and can be programmed without issue.

I've tried changing the physical position of the F8346 in the chain to no avail (first, last, etc.).

I have the EPLDs specified as "Generic" devices in the JTAG config file.
I'm not sure CW is even recognizing that I'm trying to do multi-core debugging.  After I select the check-box in the project configuration for "multi-core debugging" and exit the dialog box, when I re-enter the check-box is unchecked.

What do I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks and Regards,

Elliott
