IMX6Q custom board to download *.img by using MFGTool2

I'm using KK4.4.3_2.0.0-ga release. This release is based on the L3.10.53 kernel. When I use MFGTool2 to download *.img into eMMC of my custom board, the download process stops after printing debug messge "VGEN3: disabling".  One of the debug message shows "mmcblk3: unknown partition table", it seems eMMC can't be partitioned. Please kindly advise. Also, based on L3.10.53 kernel version, how to build ram uboot and kernel for MFGTool2? Thanks.

You say your trying to download an Image to the eMMC, but it looks like the download process isn't starting (Linux kernel hangs).

Are you able to boot Linux with an initramfs?

Can you attach your mfg ucl2.xml ?

Yes, the kernel seems hangs. I'm unable to boot Linux with initramfs. Actually eMMC of SABRESD reference board is EOL, my hardware engineer changed SAMSUNG eMMC, he said the parameters of this eMMC are similar to reference board's.

You can't write firmware to eMMC without booting Linux first using an INITRAMFS. ....

Hi Igor,

One of community member told me to build a zImage for downloading and replace this file in mfgtools\Profiles\Linux\OS Firmware\firmware , is it correct?

HI Jackie

yes correct, images are rebuilt with recipe given in Yocto Guide :

To build a manufacturing image do the following -

$ bitbake fsl-image-mfgtool-initramfs

Hi Igor,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

1. I would like to know whether "bitbake fsl-image-mfgtool-initramfs" can apply in android project?  If so, what should I export BBPATH to in order to build zImage?

2. My side haven't any ddr tester to test ddr settings of eMMC, is there any other way to guess these parameters? Which files should I modify to change these parameters?

Jackie

HI Jackie

1. yes MFG Tools images (firmware) should be rebuilt even if one uses it

for flashing android images.

2. it does not matter eMMC is used for flashing or other media, such as nand or SD.

For new board firmware should be rebuilt so new ddr settings, specific for custom board,

could be used by MFG Tool.

Hi Igor,

1. When I run "bitbake fsl-image-mfgtool-initramfs",debug message "BBPATH variable is not set" is shown, which directory should I refer to?

2. Which file save those ddr settings of eMMC?

Thanks.

Jackie

HI Jackie

1.suggest to create new thread

2. file with ddr memory settings is uboot/../freescale/mx6sabresd/mx6dl_4x_mt41j128.cfg,

there is no file for "those ddr settings of eMMC"

Hi Igor,

I tried to download images into SD rather than eMMC, the mfgtool firmware still stucks at "VGEN3: disabling", please kindly advise.

Jackie,

How about the device tree for this custom board?

Have you changed  the device tree compiled dtb and put to the mfg tool.

BTW, the mfg tool for KK4.4.3_200 is android_KK4.4.3_2.0.0-ga_tools.tar.gz

And in this is easy way to double click the mfgtool2-android-mx6q-sabresd-emmc.vbs to flash the board.

I have overwritten the original dtb by my compiled dtb into mfg tool folder but nothing changed on the debug print.

Hi Jackie

if kernel hangs this may be caused by improper ddr settings, one can rebuild MFG Tools

firmware with new ddr settings specific for custom board (obtain them from ddr tester),

use sect.6.2 The Manufacturing Tool, MFGTool attached Yocto Guide.

Best regards

Hi Igor,

May be ddr setting of eMMC can't be solved within several days, I would like to use TF-card to save the image. However there isn't WP pin in TF-card, how can I disable the WP detection and build again the ram uboot and kernel for downloading *.img files. Thanks.

Jackie
