Hello gentleman, does anybody know how to connect optical SFP module (125MBit) to imx287 MCU with MII MAC? i found, that standard PHY LAN8720 can't be used for that, so looks like i need special PHY. There are not so many information about it in the google at all...

Thanks for any info,

Regards, Sergii

  As known Ethernet is supported under different media, in particular

there is Fiber Interface in 100BASE-FX.

Please look at section 5.2.1.2 (Fiber Interface) of classical transceiver LXT971A.

General information may be found here :

< http://cortina-systems.com/products/download/165 >

  So, two solutions may be considered when using i.MX28 ENET with optic media :

1) special PHY(+Fiber Optic Transceiver) between MAC (MII) and optic media ;

2) media converter between electrical and optic media.

Note, the LXT971A, mentioned above, supports both standards 100BASE-FX

and 100BASE-TX.

As for media converters, please take a look at the following :

Another (on board chip) approach is as following :

Do you have expirience with optical modules?

Hello,Sergii,

     Is the PHY you are using is MII 100M ? LAN8720 is RMII, if you want to use MII , you can select LAN8700 or LAN8710 PHY.
