Hi all,

Freescale IMX53 reference boards uses four MT41J128M16HA DDR3 (2Gbits 128X16) chips to achive 1GByte of memory.

Can I use only two MT41J256M16HA DDR3 (4Gbits 256X16) to achive the same 1GByte of memory ?

The idea is to reduce board size and routing.

has anyone tried this approach ? Anyone see any problems in this approach ?

thanks

Hi,
I'm working on i.mx53 project with 4Gbit DDR3 chips and I've seen your post about these chips on imxcommunity forum.
Could you tell me please what changes you made in programming memory controller registers in compare to reference board.

Hi,

Yes. As long as the addressable space is less than 1GB per chip select and the number of bits is still 16, you can use it for your design.

Best regards.

Jorge.
