DEMO9S08QD4 question

Hello!
I have recently got my hands on this demo board and I see that it has an BDM port header. The board manual
says: BDM_PORT header for BMD cable support (not installed). What doesm that mean? That I can program other devices trough this port header or the QD4 on board can be programmed with an external BDM tool?

Thanks,
Niki

Hello Niki,

The effect you are asking about has been talked about a couple of times already on the Forum. Also based on the Demo board of the S08QG8.
Not installed may mean not populated, but you can see if the header has been soldered or not.

The answer will be in the schematics of your board. Schematics should be on the CD provided with the demo board. You will be able to see if the BDM header is an output of the internal BDM debugging module (with the solid white line marked on the PCB) or if it is another way to control the QD4 on the board.

For instance, people may prefer to use their Cyclone Pro rather than plugin another USB device.

Regards,
Alban.

Hello Niki,

It is possible to use the BDM interface on the demo board, to connect to a BDM connector on another board, for programming and debug purposes.  However, this requires that a 6-pin header be installed on the demo board (if it is not already present) and a cable be provided to connect between the 6-pin headers on each board.  When operating in this manner, the QD4 device on the demo board should be removed from its socket.

Regards,
Mac
