Hey,
I've got a license of CodeWarrior 4.1 and like to upgrade my hardware from HC12DG128A to S12XD256. Is this possible? Can I upgrade? Do I need any hardware besides the USBMULTILINKBDME.

Thank you in advance for the reply.

Hello,

CW4.1 covers S12 and S12X. No need to upgrade a license nor software.
Please do a CodeWarrior Update as there was a compiler bug in very first version.

The hardware is similar. The cable you mention is fine.

Eric.

Thank you for fast reply.

I've got CodeWarrior IDE version 4.1 Build 0692 installed. I tried to install the compiler-patch from the section Updates for CodeWarrior for HCS12 version 4.1 of freescale.com. During installation there was the error message "...didn't find any existing installation of CWS12X V4.1 or CW12 V3.1 on this operating system."

I didn't find an "S" in my installation information. Is the IDE for HCS12 V4.1 a different one than my IDE for HC12. Can I ignore this message or is it a severe problem?

Hi,

The "S" if for S12...
You should run the "CodeWarrior Updater" on your machine to find updates necessary.

There's no CodeWarrior Updater in my installation. A service request at freescale.com showed:

I have to upgrade my license. But have to have a current service contract for doing that. So I think that I will have to buy the latest v4.6. The updates on the web-page do not work for my HC12-Installation 4.1.

Thank you for your information.

Hello

Which version of CodeWarrior are you using?
  To retrieve that info:
    - Start CodeWarrior
    - Select Help -> About Freescale CodeWarrior
    - Click on "Install Products"
    - CodeWarrior version used is displayed on top in the Installed Products dialog.

V4.1 patch can only be applied to V4.1 software.
Which is the service pack you are trying to install on top of that version?

I've got the MetroWerks CodeWarrior (Freescale overtook MetroWerks' product CodeWarrior) Version v4.1. The help doesn't contain the desired items. I tried to install exactly what was available from freescale.com --> first posting.

Thank you for your help. My product CodeWarrior is from year <2001, it's simply too old for upgrade I guess.

Hello,

Far from me the idea to prevent you from buying new FSL products.
But your product DOES support S12XD already.

I enclose the Service Pack Nabla69 was talking about in this post.

Cheers,
Alban.

Hello,
the installation process failed with the same error messages as before "...didn't find ..." (--> reply 3). Should this work?
Reinstall CodeWarrior?

Hello

CodeWarrior for HC12 V4.1 has been generated sometime in 2005. So if your install is dated 2001, it is not V4.1. It is probably a CodeWarrior MOT V1.2 or something like that.

This software package will not support  S12XD or any HCS12X CPU.

To support HCS12X CPU family you need to get CodeWarrior for HCS12 V4.5 or V4.6.

You're absolutely right. The only version info I was able to get is indeed the IDE-version. Furthermore: Having a look at the installation CD there is indeed "CodeWarrior MOT V1.0"-version. So thank you all for your help.

I have to order a new CodeWarrior-Version.

Something's not right here; a CW12 v. 4.1 from before 2001??? Are you sure that you are not looking at the IDE-version? My old Metrowerks CW12 v. 3.1 is from 2003 but has IDE version 5.5.
