68HC908 programming

dear consumers of freescale products and developers of it,

I'm working in AVTOVAZ as a hardware engineer. We have a big trouble with one electronical equipment in our cars(LADA). We are working only with MCU MC9S12HY64 by means of programming it through USB MILTILINK. But now we have faced with exception from our electronical devices 68HC908. And we don't know how to program it. Could you help us to solve this dilemma?

The very first  idea is that both of them have internal schematic debugger(4 pins).

So can I use USB MULTILINK  to reprogram 68hc908?

I hope you help me.

Best regards,

Maksim Shishkov

Hello Maksim, and welcome to the forum.

The MC9S12 device and the MC68HC908 device use different programming methods.  The programming of the 8-bit device would require a MON08 Multilink programmer.  It is also possible to use the circuit arrangement shown within the datasheet for the device.  For the MON08 interface, debugging can be more problematic because multiple pins are utilised by the interface.

However, if you were to select one of the newer MC9S08 devices instead, the USB Multilink would be used for programming and debug.

Regards,

Mac

Thank you very much for your reply.

So you want to say that they might have the same quantity of pins for programming but the different protocol(method) for programming it?

And one more problem:

we have USB BDM multilink and codewarrior for working with it. The only thing that we can do in this program is writing operation in MCU but not reading flash and EEPROM. So what kind of program can you recommend to have not only writing operation but also reading if we want to use this programmer(USB BDM multilink)?

Best regards,
