i.MX RT1170 display maximal resolution

Hello,

we are developing a industrial control panel by this eva-board. We don't have any high requirement for the frame rate (like video streaming is for us not necessary).

Question 1: What is theoretical maximal resolution can this processor support?

Question 2:  the eva-board has only 2-lanes of the MIPI interface occupied. If we increase the lanes number up to 4  in another customer specified hardware design, does it mean we can increase the display transmission? (which means higher fps?)

best regards

Hello auftrag2021,

From what I understand you would be using the MIPI Display Serial Interface (MIPI DSI), in that case the resolution and frame rate would be given by the bit rate clock, which would be up to 1.5Ghz which would mean a 1.5Gbps data rate per lane. So the maximum pixel clock frequency is up to 125MHz (1.5Gbps * 2 lanes / 24bpp).

The following standard display mode of MIPI DSI can be supported:
1280*720P60: 74.25MHz
1600*900P60: 108MHz
1280*1024P60: 108MHz

You may find AN12940 useful for more in depth information of the MIPI DSI interface.

I hope that this information helps!

Regards,
Gustavo

Hi Gustavo,

One follow-up question -- where the 74.25MHZ for 1280x720 is coming from?

Thanks,

Daniel
