eclipse photon build of u-boot for iMXRT proc project

Are there any updates on the procedures for building u-boot on the latest Eclipse Photon.  I have a Fedora host and am trying to set up a debug session but the app notes I see out there are for older versions of Eclipse and I am unable to replicate steps in photon.  eg.  they steps require disabling automated makefile generation, but that disables build settings in photon.  Also not sure what project format to use since they added managed projects.  Has anyone gotten through this with the latest Eclipse?
