Clarify: RT1052 ADC external inputs

The reference manual IMXRT1050RM.pdf states in CH 14: "• Up to 8 single-ended external analog inputs".  However, it appears that more than that are mapped in section "14.2 External Signals".  Also, I am able to assign more than eight when using the Pins Tool (v3.0).  Can you please clarify how many external inputs we can actually connect to ADC inputs via physical pins of the part?

there are 16 inputs described in Table 4-1. Muxing Options,
sect.14.2 External Signals i.MX RT1050 Reference Manual,

selected by register ADCx_HC0, ADCH: 00000-01111 External channels 0 to 15.
