kernel boot stuck, mmc0 driver message missing, "Waiting for root device /dev/mmcblk0p2"

I'm trying to get our board working, booting off via eMMC but it gets stuck kernel boot around "Waiting for root device /dev/mmcblk0p2" and I've noticed that the logs doesn't show the driver starting for mmc0 (it does show mmc1).

eMMC is on USDHC1 (mmc0), same as the evaluation board in which the same build is able to proceed normally.

[ 2.957668] mmc0: SDHCI controller on 30b40000.mmc [30b40000.mmc] using ADMA
[ 2.964893] mmc1: SDHCI controller on 30b50000.mmc [30b50000.mmc] using ADMA

While in our setup, the first line, the driver log for mmc0 does not show up.

It's able to go past u-boot but it's getting stuck in kernel boot.
Here is the full log:

I tried one suggestion in another thread about changing imx-sdma to a module but it didn't work.
It did get rid of the error message, but still doesn't let us through to the login prompt.

CONFIG_IMX_SDMA=m

Also hoping to get more logs from the kernel but nothing extra showed up despite having:

CONFIG_MMC_DEBUG=y
CONFIG_DMADEVICES_DEBUG=y
CONFIG_DMADEVICES_VDEBUG=y

CONFIG_CONSOLE_LOGLEVEL_DEFAULT=8
CONFIG_CONSOLE_LOGLEVEL_QUIET=8
CONFIG_MESSAGE_LOGLEVEL_DEFAULT=7

Hi @Rtpj,

I hope you are doing well.

Please make sure to follow the below-given steps to flash the image via emmc and boot from it.
uuu -b emmc_all <bootloader> <rootfs.wic>

->Please make sure to boot with the default U-boot setting, if not are there then follow the below command on the U-boot console to clean up the environments stored on eMMC
env default -f -a
save

reset

Thanks & Regards,
Dhruvit Vasavada

Hello @Dhruvit ,

Thanks for your support with the problems we're having.
I tried your suggestion but still stuck at probably the same place.

Also I realised yesterday I didn't flash the correct image which might be why new logs didn't show up. So I am posting again with additional details.

I am hoping to see more messages surrounding mmc0 / 30b40000 but haven't seen any.

I was wondering if you have advice on what to look out for with the additional messages available, as well as other things to check.

Thank you very much.

Flash:

$ uuu -b emmc_all imx-boot-mxtest-sd.bin-flash_evk core-image-rtp-mxtest-20230418065550.rootfs.wic

Hi @Rtpj,

I hope you are doing well.

I have a few queries to ask.

Did You check with the below command to flash the board?
sudo uuu -b emmc_all imx-boot-imx8mqevk-sd.bin-flash_evk imx-image-full-imx8mqevk.wic
Have you made any changes regarding emmc or you have used a pre-built image?
Please also check for the eMMC chip, one can get information on the same by the given-below command.
mmc dev
mmcinfo

Please share the observation.

Thanks & Regards,
Dhruvit Vasavada
