I have recently obtained an imx6ULL EVK board, and I am having problems getting the Ethernet working with the L4.9.11_1.0.0 release of the code from the repo. Neither eth0 nor eth1 come up properly.
Everything works fine with the pre-loaded SD card image that came with the EVK (Linux version 4.1.15-2.0.1+gb63f3f5 and U-Boot 2016.03-imx_v2016.03_4.1.15_2.0.0_ga+g0ec2a01). And I also tried pre-built images from L4.1.15_2.0.2_6ULL_patch_images (download from "MCIMX6ULL-EVK|i.MX6ULL Evaluation Kit|NXP " page) and it works okay. But when I build the code myself using the Yocto tools, eth0 and eth1 do not come up. Below is what the boot-up looks like in the console. There are some warnings in the "Net" section of U-boot that I don't see with the working version. Also, there is an error message "Failed to start Load Kernel Modules." once the system starts up.
Can you help me find the source of the problem?

NXP i.MX Release Distro 4.9.11-1.0.0 imx6ull14x14evk ttymxc0
imx6ull14x14evk login:
I have made some progress with this problem. The ethernet warnings from U-boot are not a real problem because I can ping another machine on the LAN from the U-boot command line. The real problem is that the networking services are not started when systemd runs. After much searching I ran the following two lines on the target:
systemctl unmask connman.service
systemctl start connman.service
After that change, eth0 and eth1 are present when typing "ifconfig" and DHCP, DNS, etc. are working.
My question now is how to get the connman service running by default when I build? Does anybody know what the meaning of the following error is?
connman.service: Cannot add dependency job, ignoring: Unit connman.service is masked.
Here are the steps I used to create my build:
repo init -u git://git.freescale.com/imx/fsl-arm-yocto-bsp.git -b imx-morty -m imx-4.9.11-1.0.0_ga.xml
repo sync
DISTRO=fsl-imx-x11 MACHINE=imx6ull14x14evk source fsl-setup-release.sh -b build
MACHINE=imx6ull14x14evk bitbake fsl-image-validation-imx
Thanks,
Shawn
In the file "fsl-release-bsp/sources/meta-fsl-bsp-release/imx/meta-bsp/recipes-connectivity/connman/connman_%.bbappend" I can see that connman.service is masked:
pkg_postinst_${PN} () {
if ${@bb.utils.contains('DISTRO_FEATURES','systemd','true','false',d)}; then
if [ -n "$D" ]; then
OPTS="--root=$D"
fi
systemctl $OPTS mask connman.service
fi
}
Is there a reason why it is masked rather than unmasked? Changing "mask" to "unmask" fixes my problem, but I'd like to know why it is masked to begin with.
Thanks,
Shawn
I have exactly the same questions. Why connman.service is masked by default? I have to manually unmasked it to bring to the eth0 up.
