i.MX8MQ boot configuration

I am currently updating an existing i.MX7 design to i.MX8M.

The i.MX7 uses QSPI as boot device.

I used MCIMX8M-EVK schematics as reference and found the BOOT_CFG configuration for boot using SD, eMMC, NAND,QSPI and SPINOR. In the reference manual I only find BOOT_CFG for SD/MMC and NAND boot.

Is there no more support for other boot sources than NAND, SD and MMC?

Hello,

yes, i.MX 8M supports only NAND, SD \ [e]MMC as boot options.

Have a great day,

Yuri

Hi YuriMuhin_ng‌,

Then why does the TRM says:

1.6 Primary Boot Options

The i.MX 8M Dual/8M QuadLite/8M Quad supports the following boot devices:

  • NAND FLASH (including SLC and MLC)
  • SDIO / MMC / SDXC
  • eSD 3.0/eMMC 5.0 (fast boot)
  • SPI (serial FLASH)
  • USB
  • QSPI
  • Ethernet (via plug-in mode)

Also in the 6.2.1 Boot Fusemap clearly states SPI NOR as well as QSPI (BOOT_CFG[14]).

Isn't it only the Internal Boot that is limited to NAND and SD/eMMC? Then using Boot from Fuses allows for more options?

Regards,

Gary

Hello,

the information of the section 1.6 seem copied from other i.MX devices,

and should be considered as misprints (already reported to the doc team).

Regards,

Yuri.

Hi Yuri,

Thanks for the clarification. What about the section 6.2.1 Boot Fusemap, is it also a bad copy/paste?

What about Table 6-19 which also mentions SPI NOR?

Thanks,

Gary
