i.MX6Q Ethernet Link silently down

I'm using kernel version 3.14.38 with rtpatch RT36 and am experiencing a link down from time to time. 

The problem is that there is no output from the kernel when it happens and to restore the link it's enough to replug the ethernet cable or restart the interface via ifconfig command. 

The device is connected to a 100Mbit switch if that is any hint !

I'd like to ask the community before commencing an ftrace search which can be time consuming.

Please check with ifconfig if "RUNNING" flag is missing at the moment the link is down. If so please check if the connection is OK.

The "RUNNING" flag is still present when the link is down.
