i.MX6 Sabre-SD Linux HDMI Issue

Hi,

I'm trying to get HDMI out of a i.MX6 Sabre-SD board with a Linux image on a SD card. From various posts I see that you need to use the following bootargs statement:

bootargs_mmc=setenv bootargs ${bootargs} root=/dev/mmcblk1p1 rootwait rw video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi, 1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24

I tried this bootargs statement, and dozens of variations thereof, but I keep getting the following error messages:

Hi,

For the issue I was having it was a syntax error.

setenv mmcargs 'setenv bootargs console=$,$ $ root=/dev/mmcblk2p2 rootwait rw video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24'

Note: there can not be a space in between the "hdmi," and "1920X1080M".

Thanks,

Hi,

OK, I got it to work. I used the command:

setenv mmcargs 'setenv bootargs console=${console},${baudrate} ${smp} root=/dev/mmcblk2p2 rootwait rw video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24'

Note: there can not be a space in between the "hdmi," and "1920X1080M".

That's rather silly, but whatever...

Sorry-

That'srathersilly,butwhatever...

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion, but trying the latest demo image, L3.14.28_1.0.0_iMX6QDLS_BUNDLE , didn't work either.

If I could get a known good working Bootargs statement for the i.MX6 Sabre-SD board for display on the HDMI port with a SD card with a Linux build that would be great.

Thanks,

James

Hi,

Here is the weird thing - when I try to get HDMI out of the same i.MX6 Sabre-SD board with a Android image on a SD card with the same HDMI LCD monitor, I have no issues.

Here is the Bootargs statement:

setenv bootargs 'console=ttymxc0,115200 androidboot.console=ttymxc0 vmalloc=400M init=/init video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,bpp=32 video=mxcfb1:off video=mxcfb2:off fbmem=28M androidboot.hardware=freescale'

So, why does it work on Android, but not Linux?

Thanks,

James

Hi James

please check that attached monitor is "true" HDMI monitor,

since for example if it is DVI-to-HDMI adapter, then not all the DVI monitors have

hdmi communication standard implemented (HDMI provides control lines (I2C)

for configuring, audio).

"True" HDMI display with special HDMI cable should be used.

Also please take in mind that HDMI NO-CEA mode is not supported officially,

so HDMI not guarantee support non CEA mode. So one can try other monitor

for test. Some tests for hdmi are described on below link

https://community.freescale.com/docs/DOC-93745

Best regards

igor

I am experiencing the same issue with my SABRE Platform.  The television monitor I am using to test is definitely true HDMI and the cable is true HDMI.  I have also had success connecting to this monitor in the past using iMX6 embedded boards so I know the silicon can handle the connection.  I believe we are going to find a solution for the SABRE boards based on configuration settings.
