What is the estimated PPM of the i.MX6 Dual-Lite RTC using only the internal oscillator? I am trying to get an idea of how many seconds the clock will be off if I run the clock for 2 months without any external compensation.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello Tony,

The on-chip loose-tolerance ring oscillator runs at approximately 40 kHz and comes up first. It is affected by process, voltage and temperature variations, so there is not a defined accuracy and using an external crystal is strongly recommended, especially if you wish to keep a RTC clock.

The oscillator itself has a tolerance of the  ± 50% which means the clock can vary from 20 KHz to 60 KHz, which is why it's not really suitable keep an RTC up to date.

I hope this helps!

P.S. The oscillator itself has a tolerance of the  ± 50% which means the clock can vary from 20 KHz to 60 KHz, which is why it's not really suitable keep an RTC up to date.
