Hi,

I'm very sorry to ask such a basic question.

Roughly how much current can be sourced or sinked directly by pins configured as output pins on the i.MX 8 M Plus using 3.3 V logic?

I was able to find the different output strengths that could be set in the reference manual but I haven't been able to find how much current can safely be sourced or sinked to these pins.

HI @Will_Robertson!

Thank you for contacting NXP Support!

That information can be consulted in the datasheet.

Best Regards!

Hi @Chavira

I read the data sheet before asking and couldn't find this information in the data sheet. It may be in the reference document which is 7428 pages long but I haven't been able to read all 7428 pages.

HI @Will_Robertson!

We mention that values but not in a table.

We provide a formula to calculate but the typical values for iMX8MP are the next:

DSE_X1:  120 Ω
DSE_X2: 60 Ω
DSE_X4:  30 Ω
DSE_X6: 20 Ω

With the impedance values you can calculate the maximum current if you are using 3.3v or 1.8v

Best Regards!

Hi @Chavira

Thank you very much. The ability to set the output impedance is very valuable and innovative functionality in the i. MX 8M Plus and gives it a significant advantage over other SoCs where an additional chip would be needed to achieve this.

This will significantly ease electronic design and reduce chip count in many systems as well as giving much better fault tolerance leading to better long term robustness and reliability
