Hi @mshanka1

As Franstisek says, could you please provide more information about your concerns regarding VM?

Do you require this virtual machine to build our BSP?

Hi @mshanka1 ,
your question is very vague. Especially about what is the purpose of your VM. I doubt anyone would be able to help you.

Hi @Frantisek_Prochaska @brian14 ,

Sorry for the delay in reply.

I want to use build the software related to iMX8QuadMax MEK board on my Windows laptop which has Ubuntu 22.04 running on the VirutalBox.

I want to know weather there is any specific system configuartion required for this like how much RAM, FLASH be assigned to the Ubuntu running on the VirtualBox or is a seperate Laptop/workstation with Ubuntu required to do any developmnt work related to the iMX8QuadMax board?

Also let me know if there is any specific workstation hardware requirements needed to work with this board?

Hi @mshanka1

Thank you for your reply.

Based on The Yocto Project User's Guide:
"The minimum hard disk space required is about 50 GB. It is recommended that at least 120 GB is provided, which is enough to compile all backends together. For building machine learning components, at least 250 GB is recommended. The recommended minimum Ubuntu version is 20.04 or later. The latest release supports Chromium v91, which requires an increase to the ulimit (number of open files) to 4098."
Regarding RAM space, in my experience I would say that you will need a minimum of 8 GB to have correct operation.

I hope this information will be helpful.

Have a great day!

Hi @brian14 ,

Thank for the information.

My laptop configuration is:

Windows 10 Pro,

RAM: 16GB

Memory: 500GB.

I have installed VistualBox and installed Ubuntu 22.04 over virtual box.

I have selected RAM: 4GB, Disk Space: 25GB.

Should i have to select RAM: 8GB and Disk Space: 120GB for iMX8QuadMax MEK to work properly (BSP compilation etc). I am not going for any Machine Language development projects.

Yes, based on your last reply your VM must build the BSP.

Crazy requirements, right? I always used the Linux as released by NXP and build only kernel or a single app. But then nobody can reproduce what I did, nor can they maintain those boards.
