Hi,

I am new to the i.MX6 community and trying to get Linux working on my new i.MX6 Series SABRE for Smart Devices board (MCIMX6Q-SDP).

I got the repo tool and initiated a repo with

repo init -u https://github.com/Freescale/fsl-community-bsp-platform -b dylan

repo sync

Then I built a core-image-x11 with

source setup-environment build

bitbake core-image-x11

The build completed with

Build Configuration:

BB_VERSION        = "1.18.0"

BUILD_SYS         = "i686-linux"

NATIVELSBSTRING   = "SUSE-LINUX-11.4"

TARGET_SYS        = "arm-poky-linux-gnueabi"

MACHINE           = "imx6qsabresd"

DISTRO            = "poky"

DISTRO_VERSION    = "1.4"

TUNE_FEATURES     = "armv7a vfp neon"

TARGET_FPU        = "vfp-neon"

meta

meta-yocto        = "(nobranch):c3cb65041834159a318df9c1a5a05f1ef36a2ebc"

meta-oe           = "(nobranch):f3e293c3c81be161234fdc5d5e3329db24d3f30f"

meta-fsl-arm      = "(nobranch):95e013e931e64c4e2c09cce8b946e876baefac78"

meta-fsl-arm-extra = "(nobranch):5f5a9cfcad223f5a1c623346780510ffcdc012ab"

meta-fsl-demos    = "(nobranch):724cfb929748f47782dea3b1dc412b028f6f3515"

Then I copied the ./build/tmp/deploy/images/core-image-x11-imx6qsabresd.sdcard file to an SD card with

dd if=core-image-x11-imx6qsabresd.sdcard of=/dev/sdd bs=1M

while /dev/sdd is the drive where my SD-card shows up in fdisk -l

I inserted the SD card into the board booted, but no penguins on the screen and no Yocto boot animation.

The display works with the Android SD card as well as when I am exchanging my self-made Kernel with the kernel that comes with the new

L3.0.35_4.0.0_DEMO_IMAGE that I found on SABRE Platform for Smart Devices Based on the i.MX 6 Series Product Summary Page

So I think the issue is a Kernel issue. (by the way, the Kernel from L3.0.35_4.0.0_DEMO_IMAGE does not work with the x-server from Yocto-dylan)

This is what I see as boot log on the serial console

The x-server is running, as it is shown in ps and there is no error in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but no output on the 10" screen.

I have the same issue using Yocto-danny, nothing on the screen.

Can anybody help me, please?

As a last try, connect the screen into the toher LVDS port or add ldb=dul0/1  into the kernel cmd line. If issue persists, post this into the meta-freescale mailing list.

you may need to give kernel args for enabling the display. It will either be mmcargs or bootargs (depending on your boot medium). Look here for details:

I already tried this with extending the mmcargs with

video=mxcfb0:dev=ldb,LDB-XGA,if=RGB666

as well as

video=mxcfb1:dev=ldb,LDB-XGA,if=RGB666

but no change.

By the way,  the kernel that comes with the new L3.0.35_4.0.0_DEMO_IMAGE did not need any additional kernel bootarg to enable the 10" display.

YES, this was the missing part! Just adding ldb=dul0 did it.

The video=mxcfb1:dev=ldb,LDB-XGA,if=RGB666 is not needed.

Thanks a lot.
