And point me to correct documents.

How to determine from code which type or series an imx8 soc is?

I see below apis in kernel for few families

cpu_is_imx8qxp()

cpu_is_imx8mq()

cpu_is_imx8qm()

How to know if cpu_is_imx8qp?

one can refer to available i.MX8 documentation (in particular Table 2. Orderable part numbers Datasheet)

i.MX 8 Series Applications Processors | Arm® Cortex®-A72/A53/A35/M4 cores | NXP 

for example i.MX8M Datasheet

i.MX 8M Dual / 8M QuadLite / 8M Quad Applications Processors Data Sheet for Industrial Products

Note i.MX8QM (i.MX8QP is derivative), i.MX8X series are preproduction parts and its full info

is not publicly available yet. It can be obtained through NXP local marketing office.
