Dears,

I'm trying to follow Installing Ubuntu Rootfs on NXP i.MX6 boards and build Ubuntu rootfs.

I need to have configuration for i.MX6QP with Sabre AI board.

$ export board=sabreauto

$ export target=mx6qp

$ cd ~/  $ wget –c http://git.freescale.com/git/cgit.cgi/imx/uboot-imx.git/snapshot/uboot-imx-rel_imx_3.14.52_1.1.0_ga.tar.gz  $ tar -xf uboot-imx-rel_imx_3.14.52_1.1.0_ga.tar.gz

$ cd uboot-imx-rel_imx_3.14.52_1.1.0_ga

$ make $targetboard_config    # e.g. mx6qsabresd_config

$ make

I am getting errors:

root@Latitude:~/uboot-imx-rel_imx_3.14.52_1.1.0_ga$ make $targetboard_config

Any idea how to fix ? How to update a processes https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-330147 for i.MX6QP with Sabre AI board?

I did the same on my Ubuntu 14.04 running Linux 3.13.0-29 x86_64 kernel and got no error:

vik@pechka:~/uboot-imx-rel_imx_3.14.52_1.1.0_ga$ make mx6qpsabreauto_config
HOSTCC scripts/basic/fixdep
HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/conf.o
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.c
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.lex.c
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.hash.c
HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.o
HOSTLD scripts/kconfig/conf
#
# configuration written to .config
#
vik@pechka:~/uboot-imx-rel_imx_3.14.52_1.1.0_ga$

Please make sure that OS and environment is OK in your case.

Have a great day,
Victor

Please write appropriate config name for your Sabre AI board at the "make $targetboard_config" command.

I applied "mx6qp_sabreauto" for

$ make $targetboard_config

I followed the procedure in Installing Ubuntu Rootfs on NXP i.MX6 boards

Now I am trying to start the system but I got stuck at (another question: How can I redirect output to HDMI monitor?)

Hello Erik,

It looks like u-boot works fine, it loads the kernel correctly and the kernel boots into the Ubuntu rootfs.

You need to append a video= kernel commandline option. See the line in your boot console output:

Kernel command line: console=ttymxc3,115200 root=/dev/mmcblk2p2 rootwait rw

Download the Linux BSP documentation for a release corresponding to your kernel version. Starting from i.MX6Q product page on nxp.com, navigate to Documentation and then Supporting Information.

The documentation package, among other useful things, contains instructions how to set up u-boot environment variables for your kernel with various display interfaces, in the Linux User's Guide. For 1080p HDMI, you would probably have to type in:

setenv mmcargs $mmcargs video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24
saveenv

This is just the beginning though, if you need hardware acceleration in Xorg, you will have to install the Vivante DRI driver, and OpenGL libraries.

Also as a side note, to be able to log in through the serial connection, you need to configure systemd to run a serial console on ttymxc3. With oldschool init, that would be one extra line in /etc/inittab

So you're suggestion is to set it within u-boot console. Stop u-boot @ start and set

setenv mmcargs $mmcargs video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24
saveenv

I want to set HDMI output as default so it's always started with HDMI output

For this single system, yes you can use the u-boot console and saveenv should make your change permanent.

If you prefer to have this changed in u-boot.imx, have a look at uboot-imx/include/configs/mx6qsabre_common.h line 216 (CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_SETTINGS), unless you are booting from NAND or SATA (check the surrounding #if block conditional expression)

Anyway; suggestion of

setenv mmcargs $mmcargs video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24
saveenv

it does not allow HDMI display - no output onto HDMI monitor
