We have a custom board based on the i.MX28-evk. We have a single usb device, a WiFi radio, that is permanently connected to USB1. There is no power controller and no over current sense, since the device is a permanent connection. When the processor starts enumerating the bus we get this:

which repeats forever. After a few minutes the new device number is in the hundreds. To debug I disconnected the device from our board and wired it to a USB cable which I plugged into the EVK. That works fine. I also removed R190 on the EVK which disconnects the over current pin for USB1. No difference. We suspect a signal integrity problem of some kind since the same kernel has different results when run on the EVK vs our board, but the traces are pretty short, differentially routed, and not shorted to anything so there isn't really much to go wrong.
We are using the 3.10.20 kernel and mainline u-boot here.
Any ideas what we are missing here?
Thanks,
Matt
I am porting 3.10 kernel to our custom board. Below are logs I am getting for USB interface .Can anybody find the reason for these continous logs for USB. However I am able mount the USB device as USBH1. Also the continous log comes only when USB is not mount , if I connect the USB it stops reoccurring, else continuously comes.

Hi sn
suggest to check if some USB- lines not connected (as in previous posts)
and try with other kernel L2.6.35_1.1.0_ER_SOURCE : i.MX28 Linux 2.6.35 Source Code Files

Hi igor,
Can you help us with below issue ;-
We are porting kernel 3.10 for our custom board. After adding custom board specific defconfig , .dtsi and dts files ,we would like to configure few GPIO as I2C .
In kernel defconfig I have enabled - CONFIG_I2C_GPIO=y.
Also the below changes have been added to dtsi file too in arch/arm/boot/dts/imx6qdl.dtsi . and we including it in our .dtsi .
i2c@0 {
compatible = "i2c-gpio";
gpios = <&gpio1 5 0 /* sda */
&gpio1 4 0 /* scl */
>;
i2c-gpio,sda-open-drain;
i2c-gpio,scl-open-drain;
i2c-gpio,delay-us = <5>; /* ~100 kHz */
status = "disabled";
};
Is there any other related changes required or expected ??? Logs from "drivers/i2c/busses/i2c-gpio.c" indicate "i2c_gpio_init()" getting called but "i2c_gpio_probe()" is not as no logs from this function.
What should be given here i2c@0 -- 0 signifies what ???
Regards
It would be better to start a new thread about the i2c gpio topic.
Two suggestions:
1. Make sure you configure the pictrl for the GPIO pins
2. You should change 'status = "disabled'' to 'status = "okay"'
Hey Fabio ..
Thanks on adding pin ctrl I see my log coming :-

i2c i2c-2: IMX I2C adapter registered

However I am struggling with error -16 can you help me figure out what it means n how to fix it :-
i2c@4{
compatible = "i2c-gpio";
gpios = <&gpio4 10 0 /* sda */
&gpio1 6 0 /* scl */
>;
i2c-gpio,sda-open-drain;
i2c-gpio,scl-open-drain;
i2c-gpio,delay-us = <5>; /* ~100 kHz */
pinctrl-names = "default";
/*pinctrl-0 = <&pinctrl_hdmi_hdcp_2>;*/
status = "okay";
};
i2c@5{
compatible = "i2c-gpio";
gpios = <&gpio1 5 0 /*sda */
&gpio1 4 0 /*scl */
>;
i2c-gpio,sda-open-drain;
i2c-gpio,scl-open-drain;
i2c-gpio,delay-us = <5>; /* ~100 kHz */
pinctrl-names = "default";
pinctrl-0 = <&pinctrl_i2c3_5>;
status = "okay";
};
I was expecting something similar
*****************************************************************************************************

i2c-gpio i2c-gpio.4: using pins 106 (SDA) and 6 (SCL)
*****************************************************************************************************
But not getting the logs for 106(SDA) and 6(SCL)
??
Please start a new thread, since we are mo longer talking about USB issues anymore.
okay
Hi sn
you can check below for device tree
http://schedule2012.rmll.info/IMG/pdf/LSM2012_ArmKernelConsolidation_Petazzoni.pdf
~igor
- Does it work fine if you run the same kernel on a mx28evk?
- I am not sure if 3.10 has all the required pieces to have USB host working on mx28. Could you try 3.14 instead?
The same kernel works on the EVK, so I think the USB support in 3.10.20 is good.
I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem now. I think the D- line is not connected. I can see the enumeration attempts on D+ but nothing on D-. Must be a bad solder joint to the ball because I can probe at a via right next to it and see nothing.
Hi Matt,
looks as smth wrong with hardware. DDR errors, unstable power all can lead to wrong
USB operation. One can power WiFi from external power supply, reduce DDR frequency or
at last run i.MX28 EVK OBDS with USB test.
