U-Boot for the IMX6 Solo Lite EVK

I am trying to build U-Boot for the IMX6 Solo Lite EVK with   "make mx6slevk_config"   and I get the following   "error failed to create symbolic link `asm': Operation not supported" any ideas on how to fix it?

I am using a 32-bit Ubuntu VM

Apparently it has something to do with shared folders and my Ubuntu 12_04 VM. If I copy my files to my native VM Documents folder and do the make command the problem goes away.
