I am working with the SABRE Platform for Smart Devices Reference Design Based on the i.MX 6 quad core. I have noticed that the power consumption of the IMX6 core (VDD_ARM23_IN) may be grater than the used source capability, i.e. the switching regulator PF0100 SW1A/B can generate just up to 2500 mA and the ARMCORE could achieve a consumption up to 3920 mA.
If this is true, the SABRE board would work ok if this limit is not exceed. However, if the IMX6 is bring under a high performance processing task, it could not work properly. Am I right? or Am I forgetting something?
Thank in advance
Hi Markos
3920 mA is for very special test "Power Virus", not practically
achieved in real life applications. Real power consumption figures
one can find in AN4509 i.MX 6Dual/6Quad Power Consumption Measurement.
However in general you are right, pmic current limit should not be exceed,
otherwise processor could not work properly.

Hi igorpadykov,
How long does the power virus last? Is this for a short period of time?
Could you confirm that as long as the PMIC current limit is not hit, the virus mode can be achieved?
Do you have any measurement results for virus mode done on PF0100 ? It will be extremely useful for our upcoming PMIC.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Markos
power virus codes are internal codes, not available
for customers. AN4509 shows data for real life
applications, please use them.
