Runnung 32 bit binaries im 64 bit OS?

After some research it seems, it is possible to run 32 bit binaries in 64 bit platforms and it is interested for me to know what are all the changes will happen in SW and HW( address bus and data bus ) when 32 bit process is scheduled ?
