On chip oscillator Tolerance

Hi,

I'm using iMX6S processor and datasheet on Page 28 says that On-chip 40 kHz ring oscillator has 50% Tolerance. What does this mean ?

Does it mean that oscillator frequency can vary by 20kHz ? If so then is it recommended to use ?

Hi @Bitesh,

I hope you are doing well.

An on-chip loose-tolerance ring oscillator is available at approximately 40 kHz. Its tolerance is ±50% which means it can have a large deviation in frequency.

When a high-accuracy real-time clock is not required, the system may use the on-chip 40 kHz oscillator. It is recommended to use an external 32.768 kHz oscillator for time-critical applications.

Thanks & Regards,
