Not able to find source for meta-imx and why nxp has so many layers for Yocto?

I read the description about various layers available for Yocto from i.MX Yocto Project User's Guide but still I do not understand them clearly on why so many layers have been existed and moreover I do not find any source code for meta-imx layer. 

P.S. I could find release manifests on codeaurora but not meta-imx layer.

Any lead?
