Is it possible to underlock the i.mx6 CPU?

I'm encountering some thermal problems with my enclosure design and was wondering if it would be to reduce the clock speed from like 800mhz to 600mhz.

Also what is the recommended operating temperature for the CPU core? Aka the temp reading from /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/device/temp0_input.
