Hello World application for iMX6UL device

I am new to the embedded linux world.

I have a new iMX6ULEVK board and it boots up fine with the pre-loaded image as mentioned in the Quick Start guide. I am using TeraTerm and the board is connected to a serial port.

The pre-loaded image doesn't seem to have the GNU compiler or other Linux tools. How do I go about adding these? Is there an app note on how to develop and run a basic "Hello World" application on the iMX6UL device?
