Can not boot from SD card with linux 4.1 and imx6ull

Initially i used a custom board for imx6ul and successfully able to boot from SD card for Linux 3.14.

Now, I am using the same custom board for imx6ull, with just changing the processor. I figured out that both imx6ul and imx6ull are pin to pin compatible. So I guess its not the problem of processor. Now the thing is I am unable to boot Linux 4.1 through SD card in imx6ull.  I am stuck at " waiting for root device /dev/mmcblk0p2".

What could be wrong with this procedure?

Hi Kunal,

The hang you are facing was due to reading SNVS_LPSRTCLR register in loop in function rtc_write_sync_lp() from the kernel driver rtc-snvs.c. The register SNVS_LPSRTCLR is being read from physical offset 0x54 from SNVS memory map.

By looking at the IMX6ULLRM(http://www.nxp.com/assets/documents/data/en/reference-manuals/IMX6ULLRM.pdf), I found that LP-RTC registers are not their in memory maps in case of imx6ull. This is the reason LPSRTCLR will always return 0 in case of imx6ull and RTC timer will continuously wait till the timer value incremented which will cause the system hang.

To fix this issue changes need to be made for changing LP registers to HP-RTC registers reading in rtc-snvs driver or if any external on-board RTC available then simply disabling snvs-rtc from kernel .config will boot the board properly.

Regards,

Harshit.

Hi Igor,

Thanks for your response.

I am able to boot up with my custom board. But now it hangs after "Freeing Unused kernel memory"... Logs are as below:

Where the problem could be? Is kernel waiting for some drivers? OR Its stucking at init process?? How to resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kunal

for custom board image should be rebuilt based on ddr test results

https://community.freescale.com/docs/DOC-105652

change imximage.cfg with new calibration settings

uboot-imx.git - Freescale i.MX u-boot Tree

Best regards
igor
