Battery capacity measurement

We have a design based on the iMX51 EVK, and using the MC13892 PMIC (same as the EVK).

We want to use the Coulomb  counter on the PMIC to indicate remaining battery charge, and the datasheet seems fairly vaugue on this, especialy the calibration procedure.

If anyone has used the coulomb counter can they share any experiences, tips tricks etc?

I enabled the counter but it is relative to the last power off: it is a "relative" count..
How can i get an absolute count?

Should I occasionally save the count? In this way i will burn the storage!

Any idea?
