ALSA 5.1 Surround Sound with SSI/I2S on i.MX6

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to implement 6 channel, 5.1 Surround Sound audio playback by using three SSI ports.  Each SSI will carry one stereo audio pair to an I2S device.  In order to avoid errors, the three SSI ports must be synchronized with each other.  Is their a register mode that will achieve this?

Hi Josh

I think this is feasible, for synchronization one can use external frame signal.

Also it may be useful to look at attached i.MX6/35 Linux Manuals sect.23.2 SoC Sound Card

7.1 sound card, sect.7.1 SoC Sound Card for  5.1 sound card.
