The "About Communities" "Place"/Forum is the closest thing to "Help".
It is a long way from home base for anyone needing help.
Can you please add it as a dedicated link from the "Home" tab/page, or add it to the "Engage with the Community"
We have it listed in two places on the home page. We felt "Get Started" would be a more encompassing term, but it looks like we may need to rethink this. Currently, there is a "Get Started" button under the top main banner that will lead you there, and also in the "Get Started with the Community" module (with some tutorial icons) the "View all tutorials" link also leads you there. And, yes, we are trying to grow this area with more tutorials and frequently asked questions for general community information.
The tutorials and a FAQ are all well and good, but it is not possible for you to address every possible problem in a tutorial of FAQ. And it is very difficult to find where to ask a specific question about the use of the board (I had to give up).
I had a problem finding how to insert code into a post, and I watched all tutorials I thought relevant, and didn't find anything that helped. Then, I couldn't find where to ask a question. I've never had such a difficult time navigating a forum.
I never expected to 'miss' lithium, but I do.
> We have it listed in two places on the home page.
OK, without reading on (to find out where) I'm now trying to find them on the Home Page.
Nope, can't find anything. I feel like I'm playing "Where's Wally".
> We felt "Get Started" would be a more encompassing term,
I've been using the Lithium Forum for years, so I'm not a beginner, so that term doesn't encompass what I feel I need to do. When I want help I want to click on a button labelled HELP.
> and also in the "Get Started with the Community" module
Module? There's a "Get Started with the Community" heading under the Home Page, but the only things listed there are three VIDEO tutorials. There's a final button named "View all tutorials". Obviously that ONLY lists other video tutorials and that's not what I want. But I've played Adventure before, and the way to play is to pick up everything and click on everything, and what do you know, that button is a secret code for "Take me to the About Communities Page" Why does everything have a misleading name here?
> I've never had such a difficult time navigating a forum.
That's because it isn't a forum. It is an "Everything Including the Kitchen Sink Unproductivity Tool" modeled on an Adventure Game where everything is not what it seems. Sort of like Alice in Wonderland.
I don't know who "the customers" for this product were. Possibly a small in-house group that can afford to spend a lot of time getting training on how to use it.
That's not what we do. We buy chips. We read data sheets. When it all goes wrong we want a simple searchable CUSTOMER FORUM where we can find answers quickly.
Like the TI Forums. Like the Microchip Forums. They still work. They're also your COMPETITION, and their Forum products beat this one hands down.
This thing is simply WAY too complicated for customer use.
I originally requested that this "hidden and buried help page" be made more visible back in October.
The "twisty maze of little passages" that requires you to KNOW that you have to click on "Home" then "Show all tutorials" then the "Contents" tab to get here is bizarre.
It is coming up on six months since that request, and nothing has happened.
A fix in six days would have been slow, Six hours would have been impressive.
Six months and STILL no fix is tragic.
It has now been changed to:
For community questions and tutorials see Using Freescale Community.
That's "one mystery click better", and quite an improvement, but when on that page, there's still no sign of the Forum.
There is "If you have general questions regarding community interaction and/or collaboration, start a discussion.", which creates a new post, but doesn't show any of the previous ones.
How is a new user meant to know that the User Forum is hiding under the "Content" tab? It is still an Adventure Game.
Could you please add to the "About Communities" box a note to "click on 'Content' to view the Forum"?
