Hi,
We are facing difficulty in sourcing MPXV6115VC6U vacuum pressure sensor due to shortage in stock, for one of our COVID-19 diagnostics device. We are planning to use MPXV4115VC6U instead of MPXV6115VC6U. Specifications of both seems to be same, Digikey says MPXV4115VC6U is not recommended for new designs. Can anybody please explain why MPXV4115VC6U is replaced by MPXV6115VC6U? Is there any performance or reliability issue with MPXV4115VC6U?

Hi,
Yes, you can use the MPXV4115VC6U instead of MPXV6115VC6U. These devices are very similar between them including same package, same pinout and same functionality, so, the change should be transparent for your application.
Difference is that the 4115 family is an analog sensor with the output given in voltage, while the 6115 family (the latest family in the NXP market) is an analog sensor with the output given in current, so you need to make sure you add a 51k resistor on the output pin (check Figure 4 of the 6115 datasheet: https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/data-sheet/MPXV6115V.pdf).
Other difference between them is that the 6115 have better performance on high temperatures as you can see in Figure 7 of the datasheet.

Jose
