When using the MPXM2202GST1 or the MPXM2053GS:

1.  What does the 5th pin (tab) connects to? Can it connect to GND or should it be left unconnected?

2.  Can the "Vout-" pin be connected to GND for single ended use or does it need to be isolated from GND?

3.  What is the most common way of amplifying the 40mV full scale output to get a single ended output? Is a single stage instrumentation amplifier the answer? Is there an example schematic?

Hi Brian,

1. As for the MPAK package, it is necessary to connect only the following pins:

1 – GND

2 – +Vout

3 – Vs

4 – -Vout

The 5th pin has no internal connection, but you can provide a pad for it.

2&3. A recommended approach is to use an instrumentation amplifier to translate the sensor’s differential output into a single ended analog signal. For instance, the INA122 instrumentation amplifier is inexpensive, widely available and the only thing you need to do to set the gain is choose a gain resistor.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Tomas
