Hello,
I have a question about the VR5510 documentation statements about redundant VSUP (VSUP1 and VSUP2). Since these are stated as being redundant and assuming our design has a redundant supply, can a designer provide their redundant supply to VSUP1 and VSUP2 respectively?
The idea is to avoid a circuit that brings together the board redundant supply to a single node that would then be a single input into VSUP1 and VSUP2. However, it isn't clear whether the VR5510 can support this.
Please note that I am reviewing the Safety Manual, Safety App Note (with S32G3), and VR5510 datasheet.
Thanks,
Jeff
This helps guide me in a direction and it was what I was expecting, but I wanted to ask to be sure if this could be used in a redundant way that could minimize circuitry on our design.
I did think about the case where one VSUP is shorted and there would need to be protection in the PMIC to account for this case, which is not typical for a vendor to take on this liability. However, because this was no spelled out I would like someone to check with the architect to confirm.
I look forward to the response.
Thanks.
Hello
i need to check with the architect how internally VSUP1 and VSUP2 are connected together.
however the assumption is externally the VSUP1 and VSUP2 are tied before Pi filter, meaning both are needed. (explained in the VR5510 datasheet) and to Vbat
They are not exactly providing a capability for a double redundant separate power rails at system level and inside the VR5510.
i hope it first helps your questioning
