S32K116: Erroneus supply voltage 16v

Customer would like to have a safety point of view of failures that can appear in the S32K116 when defective supply outputs 16v on Vdd.

Any feedback or comments are welcome.

+ What will be the state of I/O's ? (Voltage levels)

+ Burning or thermal effects?

Based on an older FMEA found on the community I have replied with the following:

Vdd = 16v will cause permanent damage to the pad and to the device, other pads may be destroyed too.

This could actually lead to the short circuit on the destroyed VDD pad, which can, in turn, lead to other effects on the board.

Other pads can be destroyed, either in short circuit or exposing the VDD voltage.

I also recommend adding overvoltage protection external to the MCU.

Hi Adrian

You are right. In the Safety Manual we have a specific section dedicated to this topic:

4.1.1.3 Power Supply Monitoring

Let us know if there are any questions.
