Hi,

I installed the latest S32 Design studio v2.0, but the SDK is changed to S32SDK_S32K14x_EAR_0.8.4. But in v1.3, there are  two SDKs 《S32SDK_S32K144_RTM_1.0.0》 and 《S32_SDK_EAR_0.8.2》. So what's the difference between RTM and EAR . Which one we should use in our project.

Hello,

this is little bit confusing. At first there was SDK only for S32K144. There were some versions like EAR 0.8.2, Beta 0.9.0 and RTM1.0.0.

Then, SDK for S32K148 was released and this was marked as EAR 0.8.3.

In last version of S32 Design Studio, SDKs were merged and name of this SDK is S32SDK_S32K14x_EAR_0.8.4. This SDK contains SDK RTM 1.0.0 for S32K144 and EAR 0.8.4 for S32K148.

Please check the release notes in the attachment.

If you have any other question, please feel free to write me back.

Regards,

Martin

Hello Martin,

Your answer makes sense, but I have three follow up questions.

  1. In 0.8.4 EAR release, the HAL layer has been replaced with HW_ACCESS which is part of the driver layer. Why was this done?
  2. When can I expect a RTM version of the SDK? I am asking because for one of the systems we are developing, we use S32K144 with 1.0.0 RTM. But there is a good chance that we may end up using S32K146/8 and we want as smooth a transition as possible at that time.
  3. For another system, we will only use S32K144 (custom board, not evaluation board). Currently for this system, we use 1.0.0 RTM. Which version of the SDK do you recommend we use for this system?

Hi,

To answer your questions:

1) HAL layer was replaced with the Hardware Access Layer in order to group the hardware access functions that are required in the peripheral drivers and to improve PD performance.

2) The next RTM SDK for S32K14x will be available in the first months of the next year.

3) If the system is planned to be in production before the next SDK RTM is released, my recommendation would be to use the current available version(1.0.0). Otherwise, you can use the next RTM, to have the compatibility with other S32K14x derivatives.

Best regards,

Rares

Hi Martin,

Is it possible to import EAR 0.8.2 SDK in S32DS 2.0? how? I want to using some of the examples that come with EAR 0.8.2 SDK.

Hello,

I do not think it is possible to add SDK EAR0.8.2 into S32DS v2.0, because of Processor Expert and some other internal dependencies. I recommend you to use RTM1.0.0 version and better, please use SDK EAR 0.8.4 included in S32DS v2.0.

Martin
