Hi Supportors,

I bought RD33771-48V EVM https://www.nxp.com/document/guide/get-started-with-the-rd33771-48vevm:GS-RD33771-48VEVM and got some issues, please help me to solve it ASAP.

I read UM11330 but it's not clear to a user who first time to use it. Please guide me

1. I need to set it up and demo to my clients, please guide me when I get the board, any other extra devices I still need to prepare (ex: 48V battery pack..power supply)?

if yes, how to connect them? any guide or picture can share with e for this?

2. when I get the EVM, do I need to program it? or it's already programmed with a default firmware code?

3. if I need to program it, any tool I need to have? S32DS and multilink FX?

4. can I use Jlink to replace multilink FX?

please help..

Hi KuoShu Lin,

I have checked the BATT-14CEMULATOR schematic and you are right. There is no path to connect the VB_ISENSE_+ and VB_ISENSE_-. The BATT-14CEMULATOR is the newer version designed by Chinese team. We also have an older version BATT-14EMULATOR designed by French team, where is the path to connect the VB_ISENSE_+ and VB_ISENSE_-.

I am using the older version and I thought the newer version will be similar only with newer components with lower power dissipation or so. Could you please return the newer BATT-14CEMULATOR and purchase the older BATT-14EMULATOR? I apologize for my inconsistency.

Hi

1. I need to set it up and demo to my clients, please guide me when I get the board, any other extra devices I still need to prepare (ex: 48V battery pack..power supply)?

[A] Yes you need additional hardware. Please see below.

JozefKozon_3-1645621193881.png

2. when I get the EVM, do I need to program it? or it's already programmed with a default firmware code?

[A] Please download and install the RD33771-48VEVM SW Driver package from this link

JozefKozon_1-1645620968321.png

3. if I need to program it, any tool I need to have? S32DS and multilink FX?

[A] Yes you need the both. Please refer to the picture above and to the page 4. in the link you provided.

JozefKozon_2-1645621113503.png

4. can I use Jlink to replace multilink FX?

[A] Unfortunately no. You need to use the multilink FX. The S32DS supports Jlink only for ARM and some PIC MCUs. For this board you need to use the multilink FX.

thanks Jozef for getting the answers.

one more question for question1: since additional external devices are needed, please help to ask what devices are exactly need if I want to monitor a 48V battery?

1. 48V battery pack? any suggested model?

2.  what kind of load preferred? any suggested model?

3. what's the purpose of cooling fan?

Hi KuoShu Lin,

1. 48V battery pack? any suggested model?

[A] You can use our 14-Cell Battery Pack Emulator. Please see this link

2.  what kind of load preferred? any suggested model?

[A] Unfortunately we do not have any load for the RD33771-48VEVM. You can use any load as described in the section 2.2 in the UM11300 attached.

3. what's the purpose of cooling fan?

[A] The Fan can be used as the typical load.

Hi KuoShu Lin,

could you please provide a link to the NXP device you have purchased? I am not sure which battery pack you have bought. The link you provided just brings me to our software center page.

JozefKozon_0-1646125761513.png

It doesn't download automatically, so I click the download button and it brings me to this page.

hi Jozef,

it's ok, I've understood the how to connect battery to EVB board https://www.nxp.com/design/designs/rd33771-48vevm-reference-design:RD33771-48VEVM#Design-Resources

I can share with you that battery pack in the market ususally provides 2 wires(power and ground) so user has to wire out from each battery pack and conenct it to Cell-0~Cell-14 of EVB. FYI.

No wI have a question, please help e to clarify from below schematics

NewStarter_0-1648194565024.png

it seems there's no any path connects VB_ISENSE_+ or VB_ISENSE_- to pin "VBAT", could you help me to ask your team? thanks a lot.

Hi Jozef,

It's fine becuase I only bought two https://www.nxp.com/design/designs/rd33771-48vevm-reference-design:RD33771-48VEVM#Design-Resources EVBs but haven't buy  BATT-14EMULATOR . I am using reality 48V battery pack to test with RD33771 EVB.

Could you help to clarify how to connect VB_ISENSE_+ and VB_ISENSE_- with my 48V battery pack? (it only has two wires, one is 48V pin, the other is ground), the 48V pin connects to VBAT pin?

NewStarter_0-1648519845093.png

and ground pin of 48V connects to VB_ISENSE_+ ?

hi Jozef,

one more question need your help,

the old BATT-14EMULATOR has 34 pins (please see below)

NewStarter_0-1648630523278.png

but J3 of  https://www.nxp.com/design/designs/rd33771-48vevm-reference-design:RD33771-48VEVM#Design-Resources only 32 pins, they are not pin to pin compatible.

NewStarter_1-1648630606415.png

how do you connect J3 of 48V EVB and J1 of BATT-14EMULATOR ?

Hi KuoShu Lin,

unfortunately the BATT-14EMULATOR is not instantly compatible with the RD33771-48VEVM. You would need to adjust it yourself. I apologize for inconvenience. But you have mentioned, that you are using your own battery pack, so you don't need to worry about it. The J3 connector on the RD33771-48VEVM looks closer to BATT-14CEMULATOR, but according to the schematics they are also incompatible. I have asked an application team if we have a battery pack or a battery emulator compatible with the RD33771-48VEVM. I will answer you as soon as I will receive a reply from them in the new case you have created.
