mc9s12dt256cpve vs vpve part id

I got the two MCUs on my desk. Both have maskset 0L01Y. The CPVE part does not seem to work the same as the VPVE part:

  • - first, its part id is 0011, not listed in the documentation;

- its internal clock seems to run slower. CW debugger reports it at 2.xx MHz instead of the 4 MHz of the VPVE part;

- its PLL doesn't lock.

Bad batch? (I got several similar specimen)

Hi,

There is no difference between these part except temperature range.  (C vs. V)

I suppose you bought both devices from an official distributor because in past there were some fakes on the market.

I have found…. Part ID 0011 is for this device

In order to check whether your design is correct it is necessary to see schematic design with presented part numbers and values. (environment of the MCU is enough)

Then, it is necessary to see PLL setup.

Something can be wrong and working on the edge of parameters and one MCU accept it but other one no.

The first check is to start the MCU in the Special mode MODC=MODB=MODA=0 and measure pin PE4. You should measure frequency OSCCLK/2 at the pin. If no the oscillator or its circuitry is not OK.

If it is DP256B device then it was able to accept only Colpitts oscillator or External clock (Pierce was not implemented).

Best regards,

Ladislav
